Exciting enough this is the first review of a Göttingen bar, restaurant, cafe, shop, of the many I hope to write in the future.
This was my first proper meal out and the choice couldn't have been more adequate. Nudelhaus is a Göttingen landmark, and is probably the most crowded place in the city centre. Every day groups of friends, elderly tourists and couples of all ages come to eat inside the wooden cozy interior. The place is welcoming and intimate, though it feels more like a quintessentialy german Gasthaus than an italian restaurant.
The menu boasts a wide variety of options to choose from, being the star of the place their homemade pasta. Being the cheese-lover that I am, I went for the housemade cheese raviolis with leek, black olives and feta cheese. All the combinations were exquisite in paper, and although the ingredients were excelent, they overpowered the flavours of the dishes. The quantities were generous in all aspects, and the different flavours just didn't seem to come together.
The desserts were classic italian crowd-pleasers, and I said to myself the way they made their tiramisu would say a lot of their level of italianness. It was indeed picture-perfect and satisfaying but too liquidy.
Finally I was certainly put off by the fact that one cannot get a full bottle of wine, and just single glasses can be ordered.
The famous motto "less is more" (except for the wine) would certainly help Nudelhaus refine their beautiful creations.
Nevertheless we did enjoy our fancy meal and I plan on going back to give their pasta dishes a second chance and to try the, newly added to the menu, pannacota.
This is one of the middle-priced restaurants in Göttingen, with prices averaging 15€, main dish, dessert and wine included.
